About The Program
Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company invites dancers and dance students aged 18 and older to join our 5-month International Dance Journey program, held each February and September at the International Dance Village in Kibbutz Ga’aton, Israel. This pre-professional study program offers an extraordinary opportunity for dancers from around the world to receive top-tier dance training while living and working alongside renowned teachers, choreographers, and dancers from one of the world’s leading contemporary dance companies.
ELIGIBILITY & CURRICULUM
The Dance Journey program is perfect for dancers seeking professional growth. It attracts gap-year students, B.A./B.F.A. dance majors, recent graduates, and aspiring professionals. Dancers receive advanced training and make valuable connections in Israel, a global center for contemporary dance.
The curriculum emphasizes contemporary and modern dance, with daily ballet warm-ups and classes in company repertoire. Additional training includes choreography, floorwork, Gaga, and improvisation, led by company members and guest faculty. Eligible university students may earn course credits.
A key feature is the “Nitzotzot” (“Sparks”) project, where participants create and perform original work in the Zichri Theater, supported by our professional staff throughout the creative process.
Our international study program offers dancers worldwide an immersive semester or full-year experience, with options for academic credit.

FAQ
1. What type of visa do I need?
You will receive either a tourist or student visa upon arrival, depending on whether you have a MASA grant. A 1-3 month tourist visa is issued automatically, and we’ll help you extend it in Israel. It’s advisable to apply for a student visa if you qualify.
2. What documents do I need upon arrival?
Bring your acceptance letter to the program, confirmation of any scholarships (e.g., MASA), and your flight reservation.
3. What’s the best way to get to the kibbutz?
After arriving at Ben Gurion Airport, take a train to Nahariya (about 2 hours, $9 USD). Our bus will meet you at the Nahariya train station to take you to Kibbutz Ga’aton.
4. Can I arrive early or leave late?
You can arrive a couple of days early but must book accommodation in Nahariya. Your room at the kibbutz will be available starting at noon on the program’s start date. You must leave by the program’s end date, but there may be rental apartments available for post-program stays.
1. What type of accommodation will I have?
You’ll stay in simple, fully furnished apartments with essential kitchenware, a private bathroom, and basic appliances like a fridge, microwave, and air conditioning. Bedding and towels are provided, but you may also buy additional items locally.
2. Can I have pets?
No, pets are not allowed on the kibbutz. However, there are many cats and dogs on the grounds, and we ask that you refrain from feeding them.
1. How much should I budget for food, travel, and other expenses?
Plan on spending approximately $450 USD per month for food, laundry, and travel. You’ll have access to a local grocery store and café on the kibbutz, and additional dining options are available in Nahariya.
2. What about laundry facilities?
Free washing machines and dryers are available for your use, though you’ll need to buy your own detergent.
3. How much cash should I bring?
We recommend bringing 300 ILS (about $85 USD) to cover transportation to the kibbutz and initial expenses. You can use credit cards for most purchases, but carry extra cash for small transactions.
1. Should I get my own insurance?
The program provides travel and health insurance, but it only covers you while in Israel. You should purchase additional travel insurance for your journey to and from Israel, including any extra days you plan to stay.
2. Is there internet on the kibbutz?
Yes, you’ll have free Wi-Fi in your room, the studios, and the kibbutz café. Bring your laptop or smartphone to stay connected.
1. What’s the schedule like?
The 10-month program has 7 days off between semesters. You’ll also get weekends off (Friday and Saturday) unless rehearsals or performances are scheduled.
2. Can I visit home or attend auditions during the program?
You can attend auditions, but be mindful of your visa status. Additionally, auditions should be coordinated with the program’s Artistic Director to avoid missing rehearsals or performances.
3. Will I get a certificate of completion?
While the program doesn’t offer official academic credit, we provide a Certificate of Completion. If needed, we can supply a detailed letter for academic institutions describing the curriculum.
1. What should I bring with me?
Essential items include clothes for dance and leisure, warm clothes for winter, a raincoat, toiletries, a passport, and 4 passport-sized photos. You can buy bedding and towels in Israel if you prefer.
2. Where can I eat on the kibbutz?
The kibbutz offers a mini-market and a café with meals available. For a wider variety, Nahariya, just 10 minutes away, has many excellent restaurants and grocery stores.
3. Can friends or family visit me?
Family and friends can visit and stay in nearby accommodations, especially on weekends. We recommend they attend the final performance to see your progress!
